M.E.E. (Master of Electrical Engineering) Track

Specific requirements for a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering

1. Course work of at least 40 credits.

2. Out of the 40 credits, 6 should be obtained by taking a seminar and/or laboratory that include a substantial independent work portion. Based on the recommendations of the course instructor and the supervisor and subject to prior approval by the Graduate Studies committee, the student may meet this requirement by taking courses from other graduate study programs in the Electrical Engineering department (courses 048XXX/049XXX), that include a substantial independent work portion, subject to their respective instructor’s approval.

3. The student will be allowed to take courses in related subjects from other departments, such as physics, mathematics, computer science and industrial engineering, subject to prior approval of the Graduate Studies committee and limited to 15 credits.

4. Subject to the approval of the Graduate Studies committee, it will be possible to switch to a thesis track, if the student is found suitable and a research topic was defined, and the student found a supervisor from among EE faculty members, who agreed to supervise him towards research/project /thesis. Upon admission to the thesis track, the Committee shall consider the student’s overall achievements to date of the request.

5. Students in this track who have previously taken courses from other programs at the Technion or other institutions, which do not qualify as requirements towards a degree, may apply for recognition of up to 24 credits, with a maximum of 10 credits, that were not taken in one of the Technion campuses. The credits will be recognized considering the subjects taught and their syllabus. The remaining required credits will be gained from courses taken in one of the graduate programs of the Technion.

6. Students cannot continue directly to a Ph.D. degree with a “Magister of Electrical Engineering” degree. Students who wish to undertake doctoral studies will be required to meet the admission requirements for preliminary research and complete a thesis-level research and/or project, subject to the regulations of the advanced studies school.

7. Students who choose the ”Magister of Electrical Engineering” track are not entitled to apply for a scholarship.

Admission to the Master in Electrical Engineering Program (M.E.E. without thesis)

Candidates for the M.E.E. degree should hold a B.Sc. degree and meet the following conditions:

1. The candidate has a GPA of 85 or higher in undergraduate Electrical Engineering studies, Computer Engineering or Computer and Software Engineering from one of the engineering or science departments of the Technion or other accredited higher education institution in Israel; his candidacy was considered and approved by the Graduate Studies admission committee (regarding supporting documents please refer to the Graduate Studies secretariat at the faculty).

2. The candidate has a GPA of 83 or higher in undergraduate Electrical Engineering studies from the Technion; his candidacy was considered and approved by the admission committee and he was admitted by the Graduate Studies committee (regarding supporting documents please refer to the Graduate Studies secretariat at the faculty).

Pre-requisites for the M.E.E. track

Pre-requisites for the M.E.E. track are the same as for candidate for the M.Sc. degree.

Completion Requirements for the M.E.E. program.

In some cases candidates will be accepted under a “required to complete prerequisite courses” status. The requirements (different for four-year track and three-year track graduates -see below,) will include taking courses, as determined by the GSC that they must complete without failing, with a GPA that will be determined by the GSC.

1. Completion Requirements for Graduates of a 4 year study-track: As a rule, the required courses are courses from the undergraduate or the joint undergraduate – graduate curriculum, that are prerequisite for graduate level courses in the students’ area of expertise, according to the GSC’s recommendation. Regarding graduate level courses – including them in the completion program as part of the degree requirements, will be based on GSC’s recommendation. The Admission Committee will take into consideration recommendations of intended / permanent advisors, and any outstanding academic distinction.

2. Completion Requirements for Graduates of a 3 year study-track: As a rule, the required courses are courses from the undergraduate or joint undergraduate – graduate curriculum, at a scope of at least 24 credits that are prerequisites for graduate level courses in the students’ area of expertise, according to the GSC’s recommendation. These completion courses will not be accredited as credit points for the graduate study program. The Admission Committee will take intended / permanent advisor’s recommendations into consideration. In cases of applicants with outstanding accomplishments, the committee may recommend to reduce the completion requirements, or recommend graduate level courses as part of the completion requirements.
