Congratulations to Roy Shafran, a Ph.D. student at the Faculty, on winning third place in the poster competition at the Technion Jacobs Graduate Research Day!

Roy presented his recent paper, “Any DOF all at once,” published in Optics Express, co-led with Dr. Ron Ziv under the supervision of Research Prof. Moti Segev.

The research introduces a new approach to characterizing photonic quantum systems. Conventional techniques typically require dozens or even hundreds of sequential measurements, each involving time-consuming physical modifications to the experimental setup.

The team’s method encodes the photon’s hidden degrees of freedom into its spatial structure, allowing multiple measurements to be performed simultaneously rather than sequentially. As a result, the complete quantum state can be reconstructed from a single camera intensity image, without any changes to the experimental system.

This approach significantly simplifies experimental setups and dramatically reduces measurement time, addressing one of the key challenges in quantum state characterization.
