The Faculty mourns the passing of Prof. Zvi Kohavi, who served as Dean of the Faculty from 1980 to 1983.
His research focused on computational models, switching theory and automata, as well as methods for testing and ensuring the reliability of digital systems. His work combined the theoretical foundations of computing with engineering challenges related to system design and fault detection.
His contributions to the Faculty were also reflected in the establishment of infrastructure for teaching and research. In 1984, together with Prof. Ran Ginosar, he founded the VLSI Laboratory, which continues to serve as a center for education and research in integrated circuit design.
Alongside his academic work, Prof. Kohavi held several leadership positions at the Technion, including Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science, Director of the Technion Research and Development Foundation, and Executive Vice President and Director General of the Technion.
The Faculty honors his contributions to research, teaching, and its development, and extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and students.
May his memory be a blessing.
