The Viterbi Faculty of Electrical & Computer Engineering achieved exceptional success in the inaugural round of the Technion’s new Catalyst Program, an initiative established to promote bold research ideas, foster new scientific directions, and strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration across the Technion.
The program attracted 46 research proposals, equally divided between individual and collaborative tracks. Following a competitive review process, only 10 individual proposals and 2 collaborative proposals were selected for funding.
The Viterbi Faculty demonstrated remarkable research excellence across both tracks.
Four Faculty Members Received the Don and Linda Brodie Catalyst Award
The following faculty members were selected among only ten individual awardees across the Technion:
- Prof. Aviv Tamar – Learning to Understand and Visualize Artificial Touch
- Prof. Lior Kornblum – Unlocking Next Generation Photonic Devices with Active Materials
- Prof. Amir Rosenthal – MRI-like imaging in handheld ultrasound devices via silicon photonics and full-wave inversion
- Prof. Emanuel Cohen – Scalable Photonic Integrated Circuits for 2D Optical Beamforming and Quantum-Ready Free-Space Communication
Both Winning Collaborative Projects Are Led by Viterbi Faculty Researchers
Only two collaborative proposals were selected across the Technion, and both are led by researchers from the Viterbi Faculty.
