Congratulations to Yuval Adiv, a doctoral student at the Faculty, who won the Clare Scholarship for 2024.

The Clare Foundation scholarship program was established in 1991 by the Clare Foundation to promote outstanding young Israeli scientists in the hope that the program will significantly contribute to advancing scientific excellence in Israel. The winners are selected annually from among students and young researchers in all fields of the natural sciences, including mathematics, physics, chemistry, life sciences, earth sciences, computer science, agriculture, engineering, and technology. Ten new winners are selected yearly, and Yuval Adiv is one of them. Well done, Yuval.

As part of his doctorate, under the supervision of Prof. Ido Kaminer, Yuval studies quantum effects in spontaneous and forced interaction between free electrons and light. Such interactions are central to many scientific and industrial applications, such as particle detectors in high-energy physics and medical imaging. However, despite the widespread use of these types of interaction for human needs, most devices that use electron and light interaction are based on classical considerations, completely ignoring the quantum nature of electrons and light. In the first stage, Yuval’s research objectives are to uncover experiments mechanisms and quantum effects underlying these interactions and, in the second stage, to use these mechanisms to improve the operation of standards that were based on classical principles in the past.

We wish Yuval the continuation of a fruitful path of studies, research, and development at the Faculty.
