First Place in International Competition and Presentation at Computex 2026 for Remote Vital Signs Monitoring Project

Shira Barmatz and Shaked Levy, supervised by Yair Moshe, engineer at the Signal and Image Processing Laboratory (SIPL), developed an innovative remote vital signs monitoring system based on PPG signal extraction.

The system enables the estimation of heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, and indicators of stress or fatigue without any physical contact, using only a standard camera. The technology works by detecting subtle, imperceptible color changes in the subject’s forehead that reflect blood flow variations, allowing physiological information to be extracted in real time.

The project won first place in the SD Express International Student Project Competition, organized by the SD Association, the international standards organization responsible for SD technology.

Following their victory, the students were invited to demonstrate their system at Computex 2026 in Taipei, one of the world’s largest and most influential technology exhibitions. The event hosted approximately 1,500 exhibitors and attracted around 110,000 visitors.

The demonstration received significant attention from industry representatives and visitors alike. As a result of its success, the students have also been invited to present their project at another major international technology exhibition in the coming months.
