A New Breakthrough in Quasicrystal Research

A recent study led by Prof. Guy Bartal and Dr. Shai Tsesses, now a postdoctoral fellow at MIT, presents groundbreaking discoveries in the field of quasicrystals. Published in Science, the research reveals that the four-dimensional structure of quasicrystals influences not only their mechanical properties but also their topological characteristics—geometric properties that remain unchanged despite deformations.

Using advanced techniques such as near-field microscopy, the researchers successfully measured and demonstrated how these topological properties emerge from the four-dimensional crystal. Their findings also unveiled new surface wave phenomena, paving the way for future research into thermodynamic material properties and potential applications in encryption and data transmission.
