Professor Ido Tal has received the 2026 Eduard Rhein Technology Prize for his contributions to polar coding.
Polar codes correct transmission errors and enable reliable communication with high data rates and low error probability, even under strict power constraints. They are used, among other applications, in the 5G cellular communication standard.
The annual prize recognizes outstanding technological achievements in radio, television, and information technology. Previous recipients include Dov Moran, Distinguished Professor Jacob Ziv, and Professor Andrew Viterbi.
